A Warm, Seamless Floor for Modern Open-Plan Living

For this domestic flooring project, our customer wanted one continuous floor that would bring warmth and character to the entire ground floor of the home.

Camaro Astoria Oak 2259 Luxury Vinyl Tile was selected for its warm, dark and natural oak tones. The design features varied wood shades and realistic grain detailing, helping to create a welcoming finish that works beautifully alongside the home’s neutral décor, contemporary cabinetry and dark internal features.

Rather than breaking the floor up between the different areas, the LVT planks were laid straight through the ground floor. Continuing the same design from room to room creates a much more connected appearance and allows the open-plan layout to flow naturally.

Professional Floor Preparation

A high-quality LVT installation starts with the subfloor.

Before fitting the finished flooring, the ground-floor surface was carefully prepared. A primer was applied across the required areas, followed by a levelling screed to create a smooth and consistent base.

This stage of the installation is particularly important with stick-down LVT. The finished planks follow the surface beneath them, so irregularities in the subfloor can affect both the appearance and long-term performance of the flooring.

The preparation photographs show the different stages clearly, from the green primer being applied throughout the ground floor to the completed, smooth levelling layer ready to receive the new LVT.

Straight-Lay Camaro Astoria Oak LVT

Once the subfloor preparation was complete and ready for installation, the Camaro Astoria Oak 2259 planks were laid in a straight, staggered formation.

Careful planning was needed to carry the flooring through doorways, around the kitchen units and island, and into the adjoining spaces without interrupting the direction of the planks. This provides visual continuity and helps the ground floor feel more spacious and coordinated.

The straight-lay design also allows the natural variation within Astoria Oak to take centre stage. Its blend of deeper brown, smoked oak and softer natural tones gives the finished floor depth without overpowering the room.

Polyflor Camaro Astoria Oak 2259 is an adhered LVT plank with a 2 mm gauge, a plank size of 184.2 mm by 1219.2 mm and high shade variation.

Attention to Detail Throughout the Installation

The flooring was carefully fitted:

Through the large open-plan kitchen and living area
Around the kitchen island and fitted units
Along narrow sections and connecting hallways
Through internal doorways
Into the adjoining ground-floor rooms
Up to the perimeter edges and existing skirting boards
Alongside the wide opening leading towards the garden

Maintaining the same plank direction throughout produces a clean, uninterrupted result. It also draws the eye through the property and strengthens the feeling that the ground floor is one connected living space.

The Finished Result

The completed flooring has transformed the ground floor, adding warmth and definition while complementing the home’s modern design.

The darker tones sit particularly well against the light walls and white skirting boards, while the natural variation in the planks coordinates with both the light and dark kitchen cabinetry. Sunlight from the large garden opening also brings out the grain and different shades within the floor.

The final result is a practical and stylish surface with:

A warm, natural wood appearance
Consistent flooring throughout the ground floor
A smooth and professionally prepared base
Realistic grain and tonal variation
A contemporary straight-lay finish
A clean flow through open-plan and connecting spaces
A finish designed for everyday family living

From the initial priming and levelling work through to the detailed fitting of each plank, this project highlights why proper floor preparation and professional installation are essential to achieving a high-quality LVT finish.
